When Peter Harrison first visited the base of the GBR Challenge in the 2002-03 America’s Cup in Auckland, he turned to his skipper Ian Walker and said at the top of his thunderously loud voice: “Well, where is it, Ian?”

Standing outside the boatshed that Harrison had funded, where his two yachts were being meticulously prepared for a competition that Britain has never won, Walker indicated the building with the Union Jack flying next to it, but Harrison persisted.

“Where is it?” he boomed.

“Where is what?” replied a perplexed Walker.

“Where is the giant hole that you are pouring all my money into?” he said, laughing uproariously at his own joke.
