Released in early May, RE8 sets its faceless protagonist Ethan Winters off on a quest to put his family back together — that’s all we’re going to say about the main storyline, lest we ruin the whole plot. Gameplay-wise, you’ll make your way through a series of fantastical arenas via puzzle-solving and enemy-fighting: There’s a castle, a mansion, a lake house, and a factory along with the titular village, each with their own (mutated) breed of horrors.
And because we know you’re wondering: No, you don’t have to wait long for an encounter with that tall, spooky-sexy vampire chick — Lady Dimitrescu, if you’re nasty. (Click here to read Mashable’s spoiler-free RE8 review for more gory details, or peep the official trailer below.)
Note that you don’t need to play through Resident Evil 7: Biohazard to fully understand RE8, since the latter’s campaign begins with an optional recap video. You should, though — RE7 is a Mashable’s Choice Award-winner and arguably the best game in the entire series. (And FWIW, Amazon had the Gold Edition on sale for just $24 at the time of writing.)
